Glass containers are strictly prohibited along with outside food or drink inside of TDECU Stadium. For security purposes, backpacks and all bags larger than 4.5”x 6.5” are not permitted in TDECU Stadium. "Our campuses are almost connected. I think it would be neat for the city of Houston to have that game." The two schools are separated by just a few blocks but have only met once in football, a 59-6 win by UH in 2007.

Cougar History: When The Cougars Were Ranked #1…

There is a kiosk stand located inside of the Cougar Club, along with the large Team Shop tent located in the northwest corner of the stadium behind section 127. The FAA restricts the use of drones or RCMAs within three miles around and 3,000 feet in altitude above TDECU Stadium. UH has three road games in a four-week stretch against East Carolina (Oct. 13), Navy (Oct. 20) and SMU (Nov. 3).

Houston will receive additional revenue when it joins the Big 12 next summer. Problem is, with Texas and Oklahoma planning to leave the conference no later than 2025 and probably earlier, the Big 12’s television-rights revenues are expected to fall off a cliff. Of the three that did—Texas Tech ($189,438), Kansas ($3.86 million), and West Virginia ($8.98 million)—all received far less than Houston.

In addition, Briles said the Cougars will focus on a more physical, downhill style that avoids negative-yardage plays. Houston, which went 13-1 last season and finished ranked 18th, has seven games at Robertson Stadium, including the season opener Sept. 1 vs. Texas State. Houston hosts Louisiana Tech on Sept. 8 before its first road game at UCLA on Sept. 15 at the Rose Bowl.

To provide the best fan experience to every Houston fan, closed captioning is provided in both the southeast and southwest corners of TDECU Stadium. An exception will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the gate by TDECU Stadium personnel. Event related signs, flags, banners, and posters are welcome inside the facility to show fan support during events. "With the renovation of Hofheinz Pavilion, Hunter and I had an opportunity to sit down as part of that package, we're talking about this game and I think it will be great for both our fan bases," McClelland said. "I know one thing, it will be sold out. If it gets done, you'd better get your ticket early." The season opener is Sept. 1 at Rice, while the home opener is the following week against Arizona and former UH coach Kevin Sumlin.

Yurachek said TSU has been "very accommodating" in sharing its facility and meeting on the football field would be a "win-win situation." The Cougars finished the 2017 season 7–5, 5–3 in AAC play to finish in second place in the West Division. They were invited to the Hawaii Bowl where they lost to Fresno State.

Back-to-back road games to start the season is a tough ask, even if both are in-state and against teams with similar or lesser talent than UH. Houston has not begun a season with two true road games since 2007, and it’s only happened one other time in the last 30 years . The Coogs started with two true road games in 1986, 1988, and 1989. Considering that UH has an undergraduate enrollment of almost 40,000 students with 224,000 living alumni, 63 percent of them in the Houston area, the football team shouldn’t have so much trouble filling a stadium. Houston’s problem may be that, for whatever reason, its students simply aren’t all that interested in attending Cougars games.

Since 2018, UH athletics has gotten $170 million in institutional support and student fees, according to the Knight Commission, which compiles data from revenue and expense reports filed to the NCAA. Knight Commission data was first reported by the Houston Chronicle. If the true purpose of intercollegiate athletics is to elevate a school’s brand and enhance its reputation, then maybe empty seats don’t matter. As long as the team wins enough to get national TV exposure, most everyone will go home happy. For Cougars games, children age two years and under are admitted free of charge to TDECU Stadium. They must be seated on an adults lap and not interfere with the sight lines of other guests.

By some estimates, the Big 12’s snub of UH in 1995 cost the school as much as half a billion dollars in TV-rights money. But the setback left UH officials determined to get back into a Power Five conference, and they spent big over the years to get the Big 12’s attention. After Texas and OU announced they’d be leaving for the SEC, UH’s invitation finally arrived.
